AYSO Region 94 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

When can I expect to hear from my child's coach?
Teams are handed out around the end of July. Practices can begin as early as August 1st. It is up to the coach to decide when to begin practice and have the first team meeting. You should hear from the coach by mid-August.

Who do I contact if I haven’t heard from my child’s coach?
Please be patient, many families are on vacation during the summer months. If you haven’t heard from a coach by the 2nd week of August or if you have changed phone numbers, you can use the "Contact Us tab" to send a league email. The email will be forwarded to the team coach or to the player's division coordinator.

How are teams created? Teams are created differently depending on age/division.

4U is a buddy and me program with all player pairs part of one team. Depending on the number of players registered, there are several coaches who lead the activities.

5U is played jamboree style. All boys are on one team and all girls are on another team. There is one head coach and a group of parent volunteers who serve as assistant coaches. Parent volunteers must submit a volunteer form.  There must be parent volunteers to have a successful 5U program.

6U teams are created mostly by school. Parents may request players be placed on the same team by writing the other child’s name in the registration application. The division coordinator will make their best effort to place the kids together.

8U teams are created similarly to 6U except that the division coordinator attempts to balance the teams by having the same number of older and younger players on each team.

U10-U14 teams are created by draft. All competitive divisions rate players by skill level. Coaches turn in a player evaluation with player ratings. If the player is new to Region 94, they perform a skill test at registration. Before the season, coaches meet at the draft and select players from each skill level bracket to create balanced teams.

U16 & U19 teams typically register under a waitlist until a full team can be rostered.

Is there a more competitive program within AYSO? Yes, AYSO offers an EXTRA program. During registration we set up tryouts for EXTRA that are open to all players from U-10 through U-14. If it is determined by the evaluators and board staff that we have a team that can be competitive traveling to other regions without adversely effecting the Core league, an EXTRA team may be formed. There is an additional fee to play EXTRA. Fees cover tournaments and an additional uniform. In addition to EXTRA, registered players may try out for AYSO United through Area 11E.  For more information on United, please go to the Area 11 E website at www.area11e.org.
