Team Formation/Boxing

Boxing is the term that Region 94 uses for team formation. Prior to the Boxing event each player is required to attend an evaluation. Coaches are welcome to attend these evaluations in order to form their own opinions of each player in their division.

From these evaluations they are assigned a skill value, then numbered accordingly from highest to lowest value and also divided into their birth year.  After this process is finished, based upon the number of teams being formed for the upcoming season, each child is grouped into boxes based on their skill value numerically. For example if there are 10 teams for the upcoming Fall season each box will contain 10 players grouped from best evaluation to worse evaluation. 

At the start of the draft numbers will be drawn to determine the order in which players are selected. The draft is done in a "snake draft manner" where the last person that picks at the end of any round picks first at the beginning of the next round. The main reason we box the kids are that coaches are ONLY allowed to select 1 child per box. This guarantees that the 2 best evaluated players will never appear on the same team which further promotes the AYSO Philosophy of BALANCED TEAMS. We do have additional rules to help parents out where we make sure the coaches child is on the coaches team as well as allow siblings in the same division to be on the same team.

The Boxing meetings are very casual fun stress free meetings. They are regularly attended and ran by the RCA, RRA as well as the age appropriate coordinator.
